The breezes taste of apple peel.
The air is full of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs, burning brush,
New books, erasers, chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive, well-honeyed hum,
And mother cuts chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean with suds, the days
Are polished with a morning haze.
John Updike
Each September I love watching first the grade 6/7 class and then the 8-10 class play football outside my classroom while I teach Math and Chemistry. I relish teaching students who are full of energy and enthusiasm. It won't necessarily last, but it a wonderful side effect of a brand new school year.
Cold mornings, clear skies, hot afternoons, bright colors, capris, and sweatshirts - these are a few of my favorite things.
I could break into song.
I will join you in the song! Now, excuse me while I go make a hot drink to sip at my desk, because I'm freezing! :)
